OUR AWARD WINNING CAMPAIGN
Allow UK families to buy infant formula using store points, vouchers, and gift cards
In partnership with metro.co.uk, Feed is calling on the UK Government to urgently review their infant formula legislation and give retailers the green light to accept loyalty points, grocery vouchers and store gift cards, which are often provided by foodbanks and local authorities, as payment for infant formula.
Parents of young babies are struggling more than ever in the cost of living crisis - are often forced into unsafe infant feeding practices that put their babies’ health at risk, formula foraging, or even formula theft in order to access this vital food for their little ones.
The cost of formula has shot up dramatically in the last year, with the least expensive brand increasing by 22%. For parents with formula fed babies, buying formula has a significant impact on their household finances. Without loyalty points, vouchers and store cards provided by local councils and food banks to those struggling the most, parents at the sharpest end of the cost of living crisis have few options.
Supermarkets currently believe that the purchase of formula using cash equivalents is prohibited by current law. However, legal experts have recently questioned this interpretation of the law, which is why we are asking the Government to review this legislation immediately and give clarity to retailers.
It is vital that the Government takes action now to clarify what legal restrictions exist on the purchase of infant formula using cash equivalents so that we can take steps to maximise access to formula for all families who need it, to help ensure no baby goes hungry.
Please support formula feeding families by signing and sharing our petition.
Thank you,
