UNICEF UK: Statement on Provision of Formula from Food Banks

In April 2014, UNICEF UK published a statement advising food banks that they should

offer mothers who are formula feeding their infant, food to the mother for herself and her family

However, they went on to add that

Formula milk should NOT be given to the mother for her infant as it may not be the most appropriate type and may cause the baby harm.

This statement was updated in 2019, 2020 and 2022, and supplemented with the Guidance for Local Authorities and Health Boards on supporting families with infants under 12 months experiencing food insecurity at the end of 2022.
