APPGIFI Formula Costs Inquiry report published
The All Party Parliamentary Group on Infant Feeding and Inequalities inquiry aimed to investigate the cost of infant formula to families in the UK, and the impact that the choice of infant formula, and the purchase of infant formula was having on the health, well-being and financial situation of families.
We submitted a response to the inquiry and made comments on the report draft before it was published in October 2018.
The key findings of the inquiry was that when families cannot afford formula, they are forced into unsafe infant feeding practices. This includes things like watering down formula, stretching the time between feeds, and supplementing young babies diet with inappropriate foods or milks. These practices can have a significant impact on infant health and are very concerning.
This report really spurred on our work in this area, even though we felt there were a few key points that the APPGIFI forgot to mention.
