Feeding Friendly: information for businesses

Why become Feeding Friendly?

Many parents and carers experience judgement around their infant feeding decisions. Breast, bottle and tube feeding women alike report being asked to cover up, to move away or even leave premises to feed their babies. At Feed, we are committed to developing a supportive community in which no woman feels judged or unsupported in their infant feeding experience.

It shows you are a family friendly organisation

By becoming Feeding Friendly, you are making a pledge to ensure that all families feel welcomed, cared for and supported within your business or organisation, no matter how babies are fed. You are also demonstrating your commitment to staff development and training in providing inclusive and compassionate customer service.

It shows you value inclusivity

Feeding Friendly is the only infant feeding initiative, to our knowledge, that aims to support all women to feed their babies in public in a supportive, judgment free environment; breastfeeding, bottle feeding and tube feeding alike.

It takes a Village

As the old saying goes, it takes a village to raise a baby, and when we come together to support families, and end the stigma around infant feeding choices, we make life better for women and babies.

As a breastfeeding Mum I know what it’s like to feel wary about breast or bottle feeding in public. We joined Feeding Friendly so that all our families and staff know they are welcome to feed their babies here

Benefits of membership

The main benefit of being Feeding Friendly is that you can demonstrate to your staff, patrons and the wider community that your business or organisation is fully committed to welcoming and supporting families with young babies, and helping end the judgement and stigma that women can face when feeding their babies in public.

Feed will provide the relevant documentation and signage to allow your full participation in the initiative. These will be revised and updated annually to ensure current best practice and will comprise:

  • A staff training policy, that can be included in your organisations handbook, with the most up to date guidance and advice on creating a welcoming environment for your patrons and their babies

  • Provision of promotional material including window sticker and posters

  • Permission to use the Feeding Friendly logos on your marketing materials

  • Inclusion on our Feeding Friendly premises finder on our website so customers can easily find you

  • Dedicated email support for businesses and organisations

Membership costs

To celebrate the launch of the Feeding Friendly scheme, membership is free for the first year!

We are able to offer free membership to the Feeding Friendly scheme from June 2021 - June 2022 thanks to the support of our friends and collaborators at AberNecessities, a fantastic charity who provide support for children of disadvantaged families. Dani and her team at AberNecessities have championed the Feeding Friendly scheme helping us spread the word to ensure families all across Scotland are supported. Thank you!

We are so happy to have this scheme. We had a Mum call us just this morning to ask if we would mind giving her hot water to warm her bottle
